WOMEN'S SHORTS : I absolutely LOVE my Urbanek shorts. All their shorts come with onepeice antibacterial chamois. They have several different varieties -regular shorts, women's bibs (with and without zippers). They alsohave a nice variety of jerseys (without advertising plastered all overthem), which are cut and styled for women.Ask your local shop if they carry them. If they don't, ask them too.REI also carries them now, or if you can't get them otherwise, callUrbanek directly (619-488-2762)BTW, they also carry men's shorts with one peice antibacterial chamois(which for some unknown reason is hard to find in a man's short). Johnreally likes his as well.--Pamela Blalock NEVERKodak, 164 Lexington Road Life Is Short, FORGETBillerica, MA 01821-3984 Eat Dessert First! YOUR DREAMSOH! for the good old days when NO ONE had to put up withshorts with a seam doewn the center!!{Men get sore there too you know!}Let's hear it for the "baseball" cut!!!--I have two friends who wear a women's size 20 short and are looking forsome lycra and about town bicycling shorts with a seamless paddedchamois. Anyone have ideas for sources I could suggest for them. Mostof the manufacturers XL won't work and the men's chamois has the centerseam.ThanksSusan
WOMEN'S SHORTS : I'm just calling the title silly because at this stage it's not truly important. I'm just curious what to look forward to in the future. As you may or may not know, I'm still in college. I've got about a year before I get back to work, I don't yet know where I shall be working a year from now.I'll be working as an electronics technician. There aren't a lot of females in this line of work, about 10% of my classmates are female.First, of course, do any of you work as technicians or better yet as electronic/electrical engineers? I'll be hoping to work in an engineering environment, research & development if possible or basic research. Hewlett-Packard/Agilent Tech is the largest employer in this area I could work for.My question though is what would be a 'normal dress code' for a female technician? I've spent all of my electronics career in the military sector so I don't know what is normal in the civilian world.-- Heather Donahue--You know, I used to think that life was unfair. Then I thought, wouldn't it be worse if life were fair, and we actually deserve all the terrible things that happen to us? WOMEN'S SHORTS : Hi Heather,In the mid-eighties I managed a group of technicians. Standard attire forbothmale and female were jeans and t-shirts. Hewlett-Packard was a little moreformal than where I was working, but if you're lucky enough to be workingwith an engineering group that's pretty much standard. If you end up doingfield work you'll be expected to wear business attire (slacks/skirtscollaredblouse/shirt, non-athletic shoes).Long life, happily employed.Cheers,------Body by Glennda"Heather Donahue" wrote in message...Yuck, field work! I'm planning on avoiding that at all costs.I worked at HP for a little while but I worked for a subcontractor. I worked on phone and computer cabling, it was the reason I went back to school. I never saw any female technicians so I wasn't sure, the male technicians looked casual but I think I saw a lot of button-up shirts.I did see a lot of females working in the assembly areas, always wearing those big white lab coats and anti-static booties.I have to admit that while I can do electronics, I'm not a big fan of the job. I know it enough to have been able to get 4.0 GPA the last two semesters. If I could start over I might look for someting more creative. WOMEN'S SHORTS : My desire to hide my true self all my life has been an act of blanding. Electronics was just one thing I _can_ do that doesn't require me to show any of my personal creative abilities. Showing that side of myself in high-school always tended to 'out' me. I can't really say what I would have done if I hadn't shyed away from the creative. In the 7-8th grades I was pretty good at poetry and prose, I love photography but I can't at 37 drop a year of electronics and try for a 4 year degree. My spouse is understanding but I wouldn't want to push her too far.Well, I do like electronics for the creativity I can add to projectsdone by and for my local Star Trek club. Sound effects, light shows, animated robtic things, etc. I find much creativity in electronics, especially R&D department.I didn't mean to imply that, for some, there is no creativity in what they do. Anyone can, if they wish, apply some creativity to what ever they do. Obviously, not all people are capable of a lot of creativity.I guess I just make a distinction between the creative arts and other endeavours. While I've even been creative in my time as a mechanic, I would never consider the work intrinsically creative. My older sister was an artist, she got a fine-arts degree and even had work displayed in some small gallery in New York. She doesn't do that anymore, she has four children and home-school takes up most of her time. I guess in some wahys I envy my older sister. WOMEN'S SHORTS : (little anecdote)When I was in the Coast Guard, I worked with a guy who carried a brief case. In that brief case he carried electronic parts and a breadboard, he could whip up a simple circuit in seconds to do just about anything. To me he was what we, in the CG, called a 'twidgit'*. He just loved electronics more than anyone I've ever known. He also never seemed to shower, use deodorant or care about is appearance. For him, electronics and especially Ham radio were his one true love.* there were other names for techs, I worked with crypto equipment so I was a 'secret squirrel'For me though, I have never really cared about electronics that much. I wish I had been better at math as I would have done more in the sciences. I see most of the sciences as being rather creative, I would have loved to get into astronomy professionally. I also would have liked to stay with photography and imaging.Luckily, this is a good time to be an amateur astronomer. CCD and film work is done quite successfully by amateurs and I'd like to do that myself. While not many do it, I'd like to get into medium format tricolor astro-photography. This is where you take three separate images with a different filter, red, blue and green. Then you combine the images into one. These are some of the most beautiful photos I have ever seen.
