SWIMMING SHORTS : o One piece men suits - Here is where most people are wrong.I have asurfing suit and a couple of underwear pieces that are short of"full-body" (end in the middle part of my upper leg).I can assure youthey are much harder to wear in comparison to a short pair of swimmingshorts. As i have already said, clothes don't make you look fat.Clothescan't hide anything [ok a good colour/pattern selection can help inthat department but don't expect much]."Tight" pieces like that do theexact opposite. They seem to try to show off your definition.Whichmakes them inappropriate for both overweight and slim men.o Btw a sporting goods store is not a "good" one if they don't carryspeedos.o Speedos seem to be the most comfortable when swimming.Huge swimmingshorts don't let you enjoy the water , make the swimming processharder and generally they look bad (especially on guys with chickenlegs which seem to be the ones that wear them the most btw).o To sum up.One does not need to go to extremes.A nice black pair ofswimming shorts that their length stops at the middle part of yourupper leg are just fine and they are the most classic piece one canwear.

SWIMMING SHORTS : Now I'm starting to get a better idea about training (I've beencramming for the last few weeks) I'm interested in Transitiontechnique.I've watched a couple of Ironman events and the like on tv and theonly thing that normally happens there at transitions is a shoechange.Obviously my local event is a little more low key and I'm wondering ifthis usually means more relaxed transitions. Do people tend to getchanged after the swimming at local events or at least quickly drytheir bodies and throw on some cycling shorts and a top or do mostpeople just sprint out of the pool/lake/sea to their bikes, stick someshoes on and away?I can see that that as long as a person is comfortable for the cycleride then changing to the run will only require putting some differentshoes on but it's the swimming to cycling transition that interestsme. My first event will be a short one (someone worryingly called it asprint), of 800m/16Mi/5Mi, surely there's room for a few minutesinbetween disciplines...You sometimes find smaller events run as time trials with a break in betweendisciplines if not and it is continuos then a lot of people wear a tri suitto swim in so that only shoe changes are neccesary. It all depends what youare comfortable with in training.

SWIMMING SHORTS : I haven't been doing tri's for long, but it seems to me that in theshorter races the transitions are more hectic, rather than relaxed.Percentage wise, the transition times are a larger part of your totaltime in a sprint than in an Ironman so there is more of a premium on aquick transition. Most just put on some shoes and maybe a shirt, andget dried off by the wind on the bike. But for your first race, don't worry about your time. Just dowhatever you are doing in training, and whatever makes youcomfortable.---Jet JaguarI have a spam blocking address. Replying to me is like pulling teeth.Visit my crappy home page at MSTie #54297Ironman transitions are usually not the same as shorter races. An IM haschanging tents and volunteers to help you. At your race, you'll probablydo it all at the bike rack. The two things that will make the biggest difference in your transitionsare simplicity and practice.Simplicity. Minimal clothing changes. The best is if you have shorts(and a top) that you can wear for the entire race. Get lace locks orelastic laces for your running shoes. Don't wear socks (try this intraining to make sure you can do it.). Consider using an elastic racebelt to hold your number instead of pining it to your clothes.

SWIMMING SHORTS : Practice. Find out where you enter the transition from the swim and thebike and where you leave for the bike and the run. Do a couple of walkthroughs so you can easily find your spot. Lay your items out on a toweland mentally rehearse what you'll exactly what you'll do during eachtransition. Some people pull cycling shorts over their swimsuits, others have one setof clothes that does it all. You might want a small tray of water torinse your feet after the swim and a towel to dry them off.I have a friend who did a beginners event and was about middle of the packout of the water. He dried his hair with a towel and changed into bikeshorts and a t-shirt after the swim he was dead last by about 3 mins afterT1.Generally the shorter the race to faster the transitions as they're agreater % of the total time. EG I took a total of 12 mins for my IMtransitions (I know I know, my bike gear was wet and I refuelled in T2) butin a sprint I can manage about 1:30 to 2:00 total for both.

SWIMMING SHORTS : It's up to you of course but coming dead last as you dried you hairsamurai skrev i...Find shorts you can swim, ride and run in. I use Nike dry fit tightfitting shorts. They look like lycra or nylon bike shorts but nopadding. I do Olympic length and during the heat of the race I don'tmiss the padding. If I am wearing a wet suit I wear my shirt under. If not I put it onafter I get to the bike. I wear a sort of loose fitting shirt (my flabis not that flattering) but if I was slimmer, I would wear a tightshirt and maybe wear it swimming to.I also experimented going without socks. It worked OK but since itonly happens once (swim to bike) I am not sure if it was worth it. Myshoes did rub my toe to a blister (almost). I'll try working into itwith my workouts this season and see. Finally, order is important. I have rushed out of the transition morethan once, forgetting something. Once forgot sun screen, on a very hotcourse. Once forgot my nutrition for the run, etc. Now I have apracticed layout and order that I go through step by step.
