SPORT SHORTS : Several people I ride with use MTB shorts you should be fine. However, you may find that they scoop a lot of air and/or insects. Bees in your shorts ain't funny!!I wear conventional lycra shorts- the cheaper the better. The moreexpensive ones generally have thicker chamois. You don't need this ona recumbent.I also use Mt.Bora shorts made for recumbent riding, they have Velcro sidepockets which nothing falls out of. I also have a pair of Zoic Recumbentshorts, both very similar. One very important thing, they both wick moistureaway from your body and can be washed and they will dry real quick.Forgot one thing, I have taken MTB shorts removed the pad and installed apeace of Velcro at the bottom of the legs to close and prevent the invasionof insects.I've been happy with the Ex Officio Amphi shorts. They're quick dry nylon, have adustible leg closures and some various zippered pockets. They also are great hikig shorts and double as a swimsuit. They are a little on the expensive side but REI has them on sale a couple of times a year. Here's a link to them at REI.
SPORT SHORTS : I have four pair of the Performance Bicycle "Rage Gear" shorts, which are avery comfy cotton/lycra blend that look like normal bike shorts. I'mthinking of removing the chamois liner. Does anyone know if someone makes asimilar short without the chamois? Personally, I don't like the feel ofbaggy shorts while biking, and I really don't like the bug invasion thatinevitably happens with them. I wear a hip pack to hold my wallet, keys, etc.I think I have repeated this enough that even I am getting tired of reading it. Kucharik makes a bike short made from stretch Cotton fabric called "Helenca" Kucharik is a small US manufacturer( ) I emailed John Kucharik and was able to get these without the diaper. I purchased a pair of the Kucharik traditional shorts without the pad;my opinion is that the material is pretty thin and is probably moresuitable to wear as a liner under regular sport shorts. Since theshort is made out of cotton, it does not dry easily once wet (sweat orotherwise). Another good option is the Sporthill Shorthill shorts thatHostelShoppe sells - not cotton but a poly blend and close fittinglegs which does not balloon. YMMV. SPORT SHORTS : Would I be correct in assuming that you are an example the vocal yetsuperfluous side to rec.running? But in your rush to condemn you may have overlooked one thing. If you sendme away in a sulk you may be missing the opportunity to experience alifetime of wisdom and experience.Alternatively, you may have made the finest call of your life. Say it ain't so--I figgered someone finally found him and killedhim.Bill is indeed vocal, but behind the mask there does indeed lurk someone whoknows more than a little about running. Now where was it I read something about treating others as you would wish tobe treated yourself? ;-)I thought my "Coolmax" top and "In sport" shorts would suffice. Are we ever going to get you past the difference between a question and astatement? Please, Willy is on his best and kindest behavior. He has kept on his meds and he's damn near a saint. ;)As for running knowledge we do not always agree but that's what keeps this forum alive. Right Willy? SPORT SHORTS : i used to use some Bodyglide under the arms, but that problem has disappeared.... could be seasonal, like when it's drier outside. i know that the fancy shmancy running shorts have a liner (and some people wear nothing beneath them), but i draw the line at shirts and sox when it comes hi tech running clothes. i do wear tights, but only in races, and the long kind in winter. otherwise, all of my training is in good old-fashioned cotton or cotton/poly sport shorts, with briefs underneath. in my three years of running, i've never had problems with 'em, but very recently i've been getting a bit of chaffing in the....er....... groin area .i'm a lean guy, skinny by most standards. i'm not sure why this is suddenly happening, but could the choice of undergarment be a factor? are boxers, esp. the snug style, better for avoiding this chaffing?never been a fan of the loose (zero support) boxers.Cam, the thick seams in your Y-fronts can really chafe, especially when thecotton gets soaked in the heat. In fact, anything cotton will tend to stickto you in all the hurtful places. I'd check out a pair of thefancy-schmancy shorts with the coolmax insert - it makes a very comfortabledifference. Some of the online running stores also sell coolmax briefs thatwill at least wick the moisture away and have a smoother surface thancotton. SPORT SHORTS : I chafe when my clothing gets wet -- like, say, 90 degrees andhumid. Even coolmax stays damp enough to have a lot of frictionunder those circumstances. Ick. Bodyglide rocks, though I needto reapply it every 10 miles or so when it's really bad out. Running shorts with a liner, with nothing underneath. Almost neverchafe. Cotton evil. Well... you asked. :) One pair. Try 'em, you'll like it. Itdoesn't hurt the first time. We promise we don't tell. You could also go for poly/coolmax briefs, which I've run in afew times, and haven't had problems."I refuse to wear shorts made of technical material with liners. Mycotton shorts and briefs cause me to chafe. What do you recommend?"Seriously, I run almost exclusively in CoolMax splits with liners. Ido chafe after about 10 miles, sometimes 6 in the winter (lack ofsweat on the inner legs, perhaps), so I also use BodyGlide on my innerthighs. I'm planning on trying tights one of these days, just haven'tgotten around to it yet.well, i could either get more tights, since i'm comfortable wearing those, or try a pair of the coolmax shorts. ok, well thanks for the thoughts, guys.... i have some deciding to do.
