MEN SHORTS : Just a guess, but maybe the rider's position isn't absolutely constantwith the change in frames. Seat's a little higher, lower, forward orback w.r.t. the pedals, distance to the bars is longer or shorter. Tinkering with the fit _could_ account for lots (perhaps all?) thedifference in comfort.Frame material does matter slightly in terms of comfort, but notnearly as much as position, tire inflation and tubing design. Tinychanges in position can make huge differences in comfort, as can 10 -20 lbs of pressure in a tire or going from 20c to 28c tires.1. Position (defined by frame geometry and setup)2. Frame materialThe anecdotal evidence has been created through unfounded personalpreference, misinterpretation of technical info (i.e., a littleinformation is a dangerous thing), and marketing.My spendy ti rides pretty near the same as my cheap 853. Geometry issimilar (in terms of pedal to seat, pedal to handlebar, and seat tohandlebar distances and angles) tires are the same and inflated to thesame level. I sure feel cooler on the ti though.
MEN SHORTS : Ti is nice because it is lighter than steel and aluminum for a tubethat fulfills a given set of minimum strength and durabilitycharacteristics. Additionally, if the bb shell threads are not tooabused, you could easily get 15 - 20 years out of a well-constructedti frame.A Terry Symmetry. Steel. Perhaps either a shortor taller stem, to put her in a more upright position, so she has lesspressure across the areas where neither she nor the saddle have a lot ofextra padding. MEN SHORTS : Trudi again...is it really 1:30 here on the East Coast? So it is...oh well... Zoltan Toth did make the cut, as you can see. He has a really nice sense ofdrama about his music (here, the Tchaikovsky 1st Piano Concerto) that I like.Shiniest Pants Awards were won by Konstantin Tupikov of Ukraine and TomasVerner of Czech Republic.Silvio Smalun had a very cute Chaplin routine, but bombed too many jumps.Roman Skorniakov, aka Mr. Tatiana Malinina, skated very well and made the wifeVERY happy.Stanick Jeannette skated very well, but he really needs to lose that shortjacket that makes his midriff go all bulgy and naked every time he does asitspin. I keep being afraid of what else I will see if his pants ride down toofar.Stanislav Timchenko looked good, and at least, unlike two guys who skatedearlier, he didn't look as if he was bleeding all over his costume this timearound.Again, Vakhtang Murvanidze impressed me. He does need to learn that navy blueand aqua (especially aqua chiffon) don't go, but this choreographer of his(never heard of her) is on to something. His program had a Beethoven theme;started out with "Moonlight Sonata," very traditional--then you hear a bigSCRRRRRRRRATCH and it segues into a boogie-woogie piano rendition of "FurElise" and the 5th. Roll over Beethoven, indeed! He really knows how to deliverthe choreography. Nice camel positions, too. And he had the jumps! Yeah!
MEN SHORTS : Ivan Dinev was not hot. Brian Joubert did better with his "Time" program,although he stumbled on the 3X. This is NOT his year after all.Kevin Van Der Perren knows how Todd Eldredge felt at Albertville. He had agreat program going, complete with patented Morozov straight-line footworksequence (including the obligatory "Gosh, look at what my own feet are doingdown there!" moment), and what does he do but catch his toepick turning intohis sit-change-sit and...*sit*. Ouch.Ilia Klimkin crashed on the 3X and fell on the 3F. I guess we won't be seeinghim on the podium this year.Chenjiang Li really was kung-fu fighting, and he was fast as lightning. Infact, it was a little bit frightening, but he landed his 4T-3T, 3X and 3S withexpert timing, and it paid off.Sergei "Biggest Thing In a Small Package Since Paul Wylie" Davydov really hit aTSN replayed it a lot and Tracy and Elvis (who BTW, knows a lot aboutjumping--I think he gave an analysis of every jump that each skater did inboth the SP and the qualifying) really focused on whether he'd double footagain. It was close, but I don't think he double footed.
