MEN'S SHORTS : I just saw an "Access Hollywood" segment on the networks' variousdeals to broadcast pro sports. Figure skating wasn't mentioned, butit was noted that ABC and ESPN (basically, Disney) have acquired therights to show NBA games (which NBC was apparently losing money on). I don't know which season this will kick in, but ABC will only show 10to 15 games, leaving the others for ESPN. Now I'm wondering what thiswill mean for ABC and ESPN's skating coverage. Less of it? More tapedelays? No Grand Prix short programs because ESPN's too busy withbasketball games on weekday evenings? More shifting to Lifetime and /or ABC Family? Seeing as ABC & co. have little problem doing this toskating now in favor of football (Nationals ladies' final), I'm not sooptimistic about what will happen once it has all those livebasketball games to handle.Waaaah!!! I HATE how Lifetime "produces" their figure skating spots. I guesssome skating is better than none, but my eyes are getting sore from rolling allthe time. ESPN does a much more credible job, and manages to show a LOT ofskating. From previous experiences, ABC Family is somewhere in between - moreconservative but not as pathetic as Lifetime (Or, god forbid, Oxygen Sports). ABC Family, back when it was either The Family Channel or Fox Family, editedout scenes about the gay character Ricky from "My So-Called Life" when theyshowed it in reruns, and they still bleep 'damn' and 'shit' from "Who's theBoss?" showings at midnight, even though these words were okay 15 years ago inprime time...
