GOLF SHORTS : Mike, I agree. A dress code is a minimum standard. That standard is not hard to meet. Any old store carries docker shorts or slacks, $25-$40. I don't expect anyone to spend excessive amounts or what I might on clothes. I am a clothes hog... Golf shorts and a basic golf shirt and some shoes with proper socks. I don't understand what the big deal is.I played with a guy a few weeks back that worn sandals with socks...they sure were ugly and I wouldn't get caught in a pair. However, I don't fault him for wearing them. He was meeting the standard.That brought back a memory... in 1989 I was in Oklahoma CIty for a fewmonths. I used to play a muni course that had two 18's. (Lake something?)One day I played with a brother and sister. The woman played barefoot andtook full swings cross-handed. I wish I had a video camera! She actually hitthe ball okay and was a lot of fun.I must confess that when I first started golfing I was a jeans player. I wasforced to purchase the dreaded khaki/dress pants if I wanted to get on thebetter courses.
GOLF SHORTS : The funny thing was I actually found the clothing quite comfortable,functional and good looking. I quit buying jeans and t-shirts shortlythereafter - that was 13 years ago.My club is definitely at the bottom of the ffod chain. But, shirtsmust have a collar. No jeans or cut-offs. I like it like that.I think a dress code is simple issue. Not a socio-economic, culture ultering control mechinism... Many courses want a standard minimun attire for all, much like ediquette being a standard minimum behavior for all while golfing at that those clubs.Each minimum standard is created by a majority vote, no matter the track. And, those tracks with no standards were also created by a majority vote....and the beat goes on;-)I wonder if you meant this figuratively, 'cause I sure as heck didn'tget my ballot form in the mail. And I don't buy it even in that case. Most of the NYC munis are operated by one company, American Golf Corp(IIRC). Do you really believe that those courses base their dresscode (collared shirt, no jeans) on what the majority of their golferswanted, or on what their corporate masters told them would maximizerevenues? Those ends may coincide, but they may not.
GOLF SHORTS : Just because somebody doesn't dress like everyone else everybody makes fun.When this kid wins a couple of tournaments, he'll be considered colorful. Also, I think the guy makes watching golf fun again. All the other proswear clothes that are too big for them. This kid has a good body and isn'tashamed of showing it off. The other pros are just trying to hide theirflabby guts.Not true! It's simply the current fashion. Have a look at the basketballuniforms of today vs.10 or so years ago. All mens slhirts are cut largertoday. In fact, a dry cleaner told me that his hangers are even being madelarger ot accomodate them. GOLF SHORTS : Loose clothes still look ugly to me. Even when Tiger is wearing long shortsleeves, one will droop down as he walks, so they look as though they don'tmatch.Long swim suits just weigh me down. I'm 5'6", so it's hard to find golf shortsthat don't cover my knees. I suppose to kids showing my knees must be somethingthat old folk do, but I'm a child of my generation.Still, in Hollywood movies - where reality isn't a concern, there seems to be atendency to go for tight clothes more than loose clothes - despite fashionchanges. But they want to show off bodies and body movements.Since when did the NBA uniforms dictate current fashion. Typically,hollywood sets the trends for clothing fashion in this country, and sincegolf is more in line with what the average person might wear on any givenday, as opposed to NBA, our golfers should keep up with current fashion.There is nothing wrong with showing off all the hard work you put in at thegym. However, if you are trying to hide a flabby gut, like Lefty, do try tokeep it covered up.
GOLF SHORTS : If you don't care about fashion, wear whatever you want nobody cares, butdon't try to have fun at someone elses expense by making fun of theirclothes. They may be making fun of you frumpy dumpy clothes.As far as loose clothes being cooler in the warm weather, I have found newmaterials that breath much better to keep you cool in the warm summermonths, which actually fit.Possibly it's just that he doesn't have a clothing sponsor as yet??I was surprised that Baddeley was born in New Hampshire! I guess theU.S. gets to claim him. ;)I think he spent about 5 minutes there - his Dad got a gig over there as aracing mechanic I think.I'm sure if he does well and he wins a few majors, the US papers will read"US born Baddeley wins Masters"!!!Baddeley's dad was a motor mechanic for Mario Andretti's racing team. Heworked in the USA for a few years, which is why Aaron was born in NewHampshire. The family came back to Australia when Aaron was two yearsold. So Baddeley does actually have dual Australian and Americancitizenship.
